Susan Butler.

Hi - I purchased an arbequina olive tree recently and it's about feet tall, but only the thickness of a pencil. It seems as though it can barely hold up its long limbs (slightly smaller than the thickness of a pencil).

In fact, two of the limbs appeared to have died right after I brought it home. Apr 27, The olive tree (Olea europaea) is an evergreen native to the Mediterranean, Asia, and Africa. The beautiful silvery foliage will vary in color, but is generally considered to be grayish-green. White flowers appear in April or May in Florida and precede the fruit set. Olive fruits start out as green and will generally become a blackish-purple. Aug 31, RECOMMENDED: My favorite olive cultivar is 'Arbequina,' a small, weeping tree with small, black, buttery fruit that ripen in mid to late October.

The tree. A selection of olive cultivars currently available in the United States that have been imported from traditional olive growing regions of the world is listed in Table 1. Description. Olive is an evergreen tree of the Olive family (Oleaceae) (Figure 1). Leaves are opposite and elliptical with a narrow apex that is sharply pointed (Figure 2).

Aug 25, Be patient if your tree only blooms every other year as some trees are alternate bearers. This is the reason I ask you to plant additional cultivars of olive trees near your tree. You should also be prepared to prune your trees during the flowering season.

In March or April, you should be able to see the flowers forming on the tree.
